The nearly enclosed tidal lagoons at Sikopo and Kerehikapa Islands in the Arnavons reserve are a haven for shorebirds. Beach Thick-knees (Esacus neglectus) are relatively inactive by day, foraging by dusk and dawn and even in the dark. Midday they emit a timid sandpiper-like tweet. By night, their eery wailing call is a familiar sound at the field station. Range peninsular Malaysia to Melanesia to northern Australia.
