Wahyu Saptomo, from Indonesia's Center for Archaeology, offers a geology lesson to Benyamin Tarus, the keen local digger who discovered the first nearly complete skeleton of Homo floresiensis. At six meters deep in Sector X., they are at the same level where the type specimen for a new human species was found. It's hoped that more deep excavations, using the same shoring techniques practiced at Liang Bua, will unearth more unusual endemics on other islands throughout Indonesia.
