A girl holds a Trochus shell. As a source of mother of pearl, the shells have been an important export commodity in the Solomons for hundreds of years. A Solomons-wide REA in 2004 showed that the snails are now heavily depleted throughout the archipelago and are only easily found at the Arnavons reserve.
